"Self-Portraits & Treasure Chests"
March 26-30, 2012
Spring break, the perfect time for art!
For this class, older students worked Kirk Seyfert, exploring how great artists have employed the dynamic use of line, value, and color in the service of a very important image: their own.
Younger students explored crafts and art techniques for “Boxes and Containers” with Audrey Engel—projects include treasure chests, May baskets, and paper Faberge eggs.
"Fly Away Duck!"
October - November 2011
What is the Duck Stamp contest? Every year, the Fish and Wildlife Service hosts an art competition for K-12 students. The students’ artwork is judged at a state level, and the state best of show is sent to the national judging. The winning picture becomes that year’s annual Junior Duck Stamp.
Our fall class featured ducks and geese in a five-week class — teaching students how to create an entry for the Junior Duck Stamp Design Contest. Students learned how to draw ducks, create a background for their pictures, and experiment with textures and mediums, before they put together their final drawing

"For the Love of Soccer and The Art of Books"
July 2011
What kid hasn't dreamed of lazy days of summer, with no more teachers and no more books? That dream lasts about a week before they start complaining of being bored. Summer is a time for running, playing, getting together with friends, and making new ones--and we have the perfect combination of playing, having fun, and learning to make both children and parents happy.
For one week in July, we explored the finer art of futbol/soccer, while students learned to dribble, pass and make a goal with the best of them. We also created art related to those cherished friends of summer: books--and unlocked the mysteries of how a book is made.
"The Art of Food"
Art and Cooking classes: July 12-17, 2010
Anna's wedding cake with fresh flowers
It was the moment we'd all been waiting for: the combination of fun art and good food! What's not to like about summer, chocolate, art, and friends? Our Summer 2010 session combined art and food in a series of classes called “The Art of Food.”
With a two-hour class each day of the week, there was a cornucopia of opportunities to explore food in art and the art of making and displaying food, culminating in an art show and dessert banquet prepared, served, and bussed by the students.
The morning session of classes ran from ten a.m. to noon, and the afternoon session was from 1:30-3:30 p.m. The last day of the classes (Saturday, in this case) was spent in preparation of the banquet, as well as in displaying the artwork created that week.
